Insights/ InVoyage 2018

The InVoyage show is a luxury MICE trade show, now in its 5th year, focussing on high end, 1:1 meetings. This year the event was held at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, Ras Al Khaimah, at the northern tip of the UAE, located just 1 hours’ drive away from Dubai. It is an emerging, young Emirate with a rapid growth in tourism (1 million visitors in 2018 > 10m in 2025).
It was a full on event, attended by high-level international event buyers, suppliers and hotels from around the globe, and I was able to leave with at least 100 great contacts, both old and new, and secured 40 face to face meetings over the 3 day period.
In addition to some great networking opportunities, we were treated to a tour of the luxury Waldorf Astoria and the Ritz Carlton Al Wadi Desert Hotel. The agenda also allowed us to enjoy a number of activities including an introduction to sailing, dune bashing, kayaking in the mangroves and the world’s longest zipline. Evening events included a 1001 Desert Candles dinner at Ritz Carlton Al Wadi and a beach party at The Cove Rotana.
The event was punctuated by two notable speakers; firstly Andrew Grill the ‘Practical Futurist’ who gave the audience a thought provoking checklist of actions to think about, covering diversity, social media, and influencers in order to prepare for the workplace of the future. If words such as robo advisors, data scientists and API’s are not in your current vocabulary, it would be prudent to get ahead of the game and embrace them now. I would also like to thank David Meade for his energising, funny closing keynote talk and for his ‘how did he do that’ mentalist moments.
On a final note I would like to offer my sincere thanks to Debbie and Richard Joslin for another quality event with great networking and engagement opportunities and for looking after us so wonderfully. As Andrew Grill pointed out, face-to-face events aren’t going away anytime soon and if you are going to go to invest your time to visit an incentive show, InVoyage is probably one of the best.
