Insights/ Goodwood Hotel

I’m often asked if working in events is glamorous, and as I look up from under a table as I am gaffer taping down some cables, the answer is invariably “not”. However, this weekend I had the chance to live the high life and really experience some of the best that the events industry has to offer.

Thanks to the lovely Ellie and Neil at Goodwood, I was welcomed into the sumptuous Hounds Lodge, a fantastic 10 bedroom private manor house on the Goodwood Estate. Met by the resident Butler, Andrew we were shown into the lounge with a welcoming roaring fire, comfy sofas with the plumpest pillows you literally sunk into, fresh leaf tea and home-made banana bread. With décor that is nicely described by Ellie as ‘stuffed’, this recent conversion from hounds lodge (aka the dogs kennels) into a country manor, felt warm, welcoming and very ‘at home’.

Our room was ‘Dido’ named after the Dukes favourite hound, had beautiful and surprising touches including fresh shortbread and Glenfiddich as an arrival welcome, roll top bath, huge walk in shower stunning hound artwork and (very excitedly) a butler call button! Turn down service included a bailey hot chocolate and the very pleasant discovery of a knitted hot water bottle to help you snuggle down.

We were treated to a sumptuous four course meal which included local caught game, organic vegetables and herbs from the estate’s farm plus a cheese board including cheeses from their own organic dairy… oh and not to mention beers from their brewery. To say that the estate has it all is not an exaggeration.

The next morning, after a hearty breakfast that equalled the night’s dinner, we took a two tour of the estate in vintage Land Rovers. Will full instruction, we tackled off road tracks, forests and even tried out some skills on the obstacle course. On the tour we took in all that Goodwood has to offer including Goodwood Hotel, Goodwood House, the race track (with airfield), the golf course and horse racing, to name just a few of the facilities.

With big smiles, a belly full of food and laughter, we headed back to London very happy to say, for once, that events is glamorous and we were very privileged to have the chance to experience it ourselves. If you have any clients who would be wowed by this experience, we can highly recommend it and would love plan this for you too!
